This contract position will provide Certified Dental Assistant services and will be scheduled on a PRN basis by UNTHSC's Correctional Medicine Department to support the coverage needs of the designated Federal Bureau of Prisons facility. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: * DAs must be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job performance requirements. * Assist dentist with the treatment of inmates by setting up all instruments for each patient and treatment to be rendered and preparing impressions and filling materials. * After each treatment, sterilize the dental unit and instruments used and replace instruments prior to the next patient treatment. * Control medication, syringes and other dental supplies or equipment; inventory as required by established BOP policies and procedures. * Keep equipment and work area clean; utilize appropriate sanitation methods. * Review dental services provided to prevent the inappropriate use or duplication of services. * Review status of inmates for completion of all necessary intervention and treatments and services. * DAs must perform the duties listed above provided they have been properly trained and have competencies to perform these services under the direct supervision of the BOP Dentist.
