The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a HVAC Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for intermediate skilled craftwork that involves heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) work. Duties include installation, maintenance, repair, and service of building systems and requires advanced skills in a primary craft and may require limited competency in a secondary craft. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: * Performs routine maintenance of building and electrical/mechanical support systems of the boiler systems. * Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC/R systems including: AHU, reheat, coils, thermostats, and valves. * Inspects equipment to detect excessive noise and heat; cleans carbon deposits, pitch and grease from fans, vents and ducts. * Replaces and/or repairs minor problems, electric motors and related equipment, ice machine problems, minor steam systems, and pump problems. * Adjusts valves to regulate temperature of lubrication oil and flow of water through system; moves control to regulate speed of fans and to adjust vents and ducts. * Records gauge readings, repairs completed, and time lost because of inoperative equipment. The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications: High school diploma/GED equivalent and three years of experience in related maintenance/repair field. Substitution of education for experience allowed. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: * Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance; knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings. * Ability to use basic shop math applications. * Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs. * Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather. * Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Required: Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
