The Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas (UNT) seeks applicants for a Department Chair beginning in May 2020 for the Summer 2020 semester. Applicants should have a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure. The position reports to the dean of HPS. The Chair is the chief academic and administrator of the Department of Criminal Justice. The Chair is responsible for the daily operation of the department, in consultation and collaboration with the dean, provost, departmental faculty, and the UNT administrative teams, as appropriate. General responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 1) faculty and staff recruiting to ensure the highest quality, integrity, and diversity of faculty and staff; 2) ensuring quality in the instruction, research, and service programs conducted in the department; 3) implementing teaching assignments and seeking to maintain an equitable and mutually agreeable distribution of courses and sections; 4) having responsibilities for the expenditure of department funds and the care and use of department property; 5) working with faculty and staff administrators in setting a vision for the department, both long- and short-term, and developing outcome-based goals that support the department, college and university strategic plan(s); and, 6) assigning faculty workloads. The Chair should participate in community outreach and engagement as well as continued participation in their professional discipline. The Chair normally teaches one course each semester. The chair works closely with the dean of the College of HPS to continue the Department's focus of teaching and research excellence and to develop strategies to increase our national rankings.
