The Head of the Library Research Support Services department (LRSS) administers, plans, organizes and supervises the services of this department to achieve the strategic vision of the UNT Libraries. The Head of LRSS must be an innovative, service-oriented visionary who coordinates the development of departmental goals and objectives to foster student and faculty use of UNT Libraries resources, collections, and advanced research support services. The dynamic individual in this position works to form close collaborative relationships with the Toulouse Graduate School, Vice Provost for Faculty Success, Faculty Senate, CLEAR, the Graduate Student Council, and other relevant groups at UNT to support advanced research initiatives. Duties may also include providing reference services, assisting with collection development, and teaching library instruction sessions. The Head of LRSS exercises broad independent judgment and authority under the general direction of the Associate Dean for Public Services. The LRSS Head also serves as a subject librarian. Subject Librarian duties include providing instruction, research assistance, and the creation and maintenance of subject guides for the disciplines. The librarian serves on library and faculty committees and workgroups. * Responsible for leading the activities of the Library Research Support Services Department * Supervises and evaluates the performance of five librarians * Evaluates operations of the department to make the best use of technology, staff and resources * Develops departmental goals that support the Libraries' Strategic Plan * Leads the department in providing excellent customer service * Serves on the Public Services Management Team and collaborates with other department heads to provide a cohesive experience for students, faculty, staff and community. * Serves as subject librarian to one or more academic programs * Provides specialized and individual reference consultations and services * Develops web content and library instructional materials, including class pages and subject guides * Participates in activities of the Library Liaison Workgroup * Serves on the Lib Guides Administrative Team * Serves on Library and University Committees as needed * Stays current with developments in library and information science fields as appropriate * Fosters positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promotes the University's and Library's commitment to diversity *Works to meet the requirements for service, and for scholarly, creative and professional activities *Maintains a collegial working relationship with colleagues The University of North Texas System and its component institutions are committed to equal opportunity and comply with all applicable federal and state laws regarding nondiscrimination and affirmative action. Librarian rank will be determined by the Library Personnel Affairs Committee through review of the selected candidate's education, experience, scholarly and professional involvement, and service * ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information sciences or an international equivalent * Minimum three years of supervisory experience in a library setting * Minimum three years of experience providing reference/research services * Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, independent judgement and initiative * Demonstrated management skills, including managing employees, scheduling and budgeting * Strong understanding of researchers and research activities * Strong oral and written communication skills * Demonstrated ability to adjust priorities, set goals, manage time wisely, and make quick effective decisions in a fast-paced environment * Demonstrated proficiency with technology * Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with faculty * Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
