Optimism is defined as the hopefulness about the future or successful outcome of something and whether or not you are a fan of his politics in the State of the Union speech on Tuesday, January 20th the President remarked that "The shadow of crisis has passed, and the State of the Union is strong" focusing the message on encouraging Americans and countries around the world to be optimistic for our future.
Optimism for the future has been a building block throughout the history of the United States and is deeply entrenched in our culture. It breeds confidence in ourselves and that leads us to reach for new opportunities and to achieve new successes. Consumer confidence is no different.
If consumers believe things are getting better overall then they will reward that optimism with their dollars and purchase more products and services. As consumers feel an increased probability they are being included in the prosperity of the country they are more inclined to reward companies with their patronage.
Forbes contributor Darren Tristano released an article highlighting the optimism targeted towards the restaurant industry and he shows some interesting trends with consumers and how their optimism is impacting the restaurant industry. “Consumers' Cautious Optimism Underpins Restaurant Industry Expansion in 2015”. http://onforb.es/1xYE3ia
